With the economy looking worse then ever, I came up with a nifty little list on what cosmetics you can be super stingy with when at the drugstore. Some cosmetics fit into this category, while other you just have to splurge a little on. Based on my findings, here's what I came up with:
Eye Liner - SAVE! : Eye liner is usually consists of Kohl or some other waxy substance that makes it easy to apply on the delicate areas such as the eyes. Well even though there may be large variations of what substances are included in eyeliner, most of the time your going to get the same results. That is why eye liner is a great product to save some money on. I use the eye liner pencils that cost only 99 cents at the drugstores and they work great with whatever effect I am going for. Try to stick to neutral colors such as brown or black and you shouldn't have any problems.
Mascara - SAVE!: There is really no point on going out and buying the most expensive mascara available when you can buy one that is under $5 and will give you even better results. I compared Dior Show Mascara for $24 with Maybelline Great Lash Very Black mascara for only $4 and found that Maybelline performed way better than Dior. Hard to believe? Try it for yourself.
Eye Shadow - SAVE! : There are tons of great drugstore brand eye shadows for under $5. Some personal favorites? Mark. I-mark Custom Pick Eyeshadow, Rimmel Colour Rush eyeshadow, and Revlon Colorstay all under $10.
Lip Stick- Ehhhh: It gets a little complicated when it come to the lips. You see, your going want to spend a little more money on lip products that have moisturizing ingredients and skip on the lip sticks that tend to be more drying , most likely the cheaper ones. However, there are many cheaper brands out there that offer some great moisturizing lip sticks for ridiculous prices. For instance, Mark. Dew Drenched Moisturilicious Lip Color for only $6 is a must and keeps your lips moist and colorful for hours. Covergirl Lipslicks Hint of Color is also another good one for under $5. Keep in mind that your going to want to pay a little more for vibrant colors because they tend to exacerbate dryness and feel free to save on the more sheer, light weight tints.
Foundation - Splurge: It's hard to find a good foundation under $10. Your going to want to pay anywhere from $15 to $30 on a good quality foundation that fits your skin type. Also, now a days with all the extra ingredients they put in there, your going to want to do a little research before you open your wallet so that you find the best matching foundation possible for your skin type.
However, for a great save, consider trying Maybelline Pure Make-Up Foundation for only$5.99 which I personally use for quick touch-ups
Powders - Ehhhh: Powders are another iffy product to save on. There are so many cheaper brands that offer great blushes, and powders yet there are so many that will have you looking cheaper. When it come to blushes, stick to brand names that you trust. All the drugstore staples are fine, but don't settle for anything less. Try to look for powders with gold or shimmery highlights that will blend with the skin to create a radiant glow. Anything too matte will have you looking blah.
A great cheap blush I know other MUAs use is Mark. Good Glowing Mosaic Blush for only $7
