Ashwariya: Asymmetry in motion

At last night’s premiere of The Pink Panther 2, a film we can almost 100 percent say we have no interest in seeing, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looked surprised—or was it amused? Perhaps befuddled—as she walked the pink carpet in peach blush and a bouffant-cum-ponytail, with one eyebrow raised in seeming perpetuity (we checked the photo gallery; all things above her left eye pointed up, at all times). Outside of the whole dark eyes, full lips, and slammin’ body, we think we’ve pinpointed the bona fide Bollywood beauty’s appeal: asymmetry. Distinguishing quirks far outweigh perfect proportions, as far as we’re concerned. You?

Grooming Essential for The Tough Times Ahead!

For many of us, gone are the days when we can frivolously splurge on cosmetics just for the fun of it. As the economic downturn continues and purse strings have to stretch further just so we can get by it is important to prioritise and see where we can save money and this includes our bathrooms. But there are certain essentials that all women need! We have put together a Financial Crisis survival guide to help you distinguish between the needs and the wants.

Must Have Skin Care Products:
- A good quality cleanser
- Good eye makeup remover
- Exfoliator
- Moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15
- Night cream (you don’t need an SPF at night)
- Body oil or lotion
- Body scrub or brush
- Body wash and sponge
- Mask (optional but necessary for some to keep skin clear)

These items don’t have to cost a lot; in fact most experts tell us that some of the cheaper, less fancy products work just as well if not better than the expensive ones. Case in point: most of the 5 Star reviews in The Beauty Review are for cheaper, more affordable products.
To save time and money, choose multipurpose products: a creamy shower gel can double as a shaving gel and bubble bath, or a moisturizer with antioxidants and SPF can take the place of a separate skin serum, cream and sunscreen.
Don’t waste money on unnecessary products such as a separate eye cream or

Must Have Makeup Essentials:
- Under-eye concealer
- Foundation (Use a good quality mineral foundation and you will eliminate 2 other products)
- Blush/bronzer
- Eye shadow
- Eyeliner
- Mascara
- Eyelash curler
- Lipstick/lip gloss/lip liner

Once again choose multi purpose products and choose Neutral makeup colours that you can wear in a multitude of situations. Get creative in your use of products. For example after applying your mascara use the same brush to brush your eyebrows. This will add a slight colour as well as tame the brows.

Must Have Hair Care Products:
- A good quality shampoo and conditioner
- A leave-in conditioner for dry hair, and use the same product for a mask
- A multi purpose styling product
- A good quality brush and comb

When it comes to hair care, a clarifying shampoo is indispensable for anyone who uses heavy styling products on a regular basis. A wide-tooth comb is a good choice for getting out knots and tangles after the shower. It’s less damaging than a bristle brush on wet hair, which is particularly susceptible to damage.

Make-up Breakdown: Aishwarya's "Pure Elegance"

James Kaliardos calls this look: sophisticated take on the natural look with browns and golds

1. Apply Matte Cashmere Foundation with the fingertips blending from the t-zone to the hairline.

2. Dust on Blush Delicieux in 05 Candy Cane Pink from the tops of your cheek bones, but don't go beyond the apples of your cheeks.

3. Blend the darkest shade of Color Appeal Trio Eye Shadows in 319 Aishwarya Rai along the upper and lower lash lines using the tip of the applicator. Next take the medium shade and blend across the outer eye corner and along the lid. Finaly sweep the palest shade across the eye lid and right up to the brow bone.

4. Apply Contour Khol Eyeliner in 135 Iced Chestnut in small strokes on the upper and lower lash line, extending out slightly at the outer eye corners.

5. Apply the white coat of Volume Shocking Mascara first, working the brush right through the roots of your lashes to build maximum volume, then apply step 2, smoothing the comb right through to the tips of your lashes.

6. Use a concealer like a lip liner. Blend the line inwards, then apply Color Riche Star Secrets in 708 Aishwarya Rai and smooth it out. The color will look fresh and elegant.

7. For added lip color staying power: a trace of lip liner stops color escaping. He recommends Contour Parfait Lip Liner in 656 Honey.

8. For subtle yet classy nails, use the French Manicure Kit.

Is your Makeup hurting you?

A recent British study has found out that there are many toxic chemicals in our makeup products, with some potentially leading to infertility!

Some of the research suggests that it is responsible for things such as allergies and cancer as well! if this isn’t shocking or heartbreaking enough, make-up is a billion dollar industry a lot of us turn to on a daily basis. Dawn Mellowship, a journalist is actually going further in the investigation writing a book called TOXIC BEAUTY.

Let's look at it from this perspective:

It's early morning and the shower is hot, soothing, relaxing. Reach for the Pantene shampoo bottle and lather up; spread the fragrant soap all over your head. Then comes the conditioner; it penetrates the hair shaft and sends glossy shine all the way to the roots. Dove body wash is next, filling the bathroom with a soft, sweet almond scent. The water streams down, rinsing away all the dirt of the previous day. Step out of the shower and grab a towel. Don't forget the Coppertone sunscreen and the Lubriderm lotion for total skin protection!

By this point, you have now exposed your body to 24 toxic chemicals. Good morning!

The average American woman uses up to a dozen personal care products daily, including but not limited to makeup, according to the Environmental Working Group, a national nonprofit with offices in Oakland that aims to protect public health and the environment; and the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, co-founded by San Francisco–based Breast Cancer Fund, a coalition of health, women’s, environmental and business organizations dedicated to phasing dangerous chemicals out of health and beauty products.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in 2000 began a project using a scientific tool called “biomonitoring” to measure the level of artificial chemicals present in the bodies of thousands of typical Americans. The CDC is measuring the so-called “body burden” or total amount of toxic chemicals, both natural and synthetic, present in the human body at a given point in time.

Using blood, urine and breast- milk samples, it’s a snapshot of the level of chemicals to which a body has been exposed through inhalation, ingestion or absorption through the skin. The Environmental Working Group reported that “the blood and urine of the adult group contained 432 of 528 industrial compounds, pollutants and other chemicals tested, including chemicals linked to brain and nervous system toxicity, reproductive toxicity and fertility problems, and birth defects and developmental delays.” Some of these chemicals are present in products we not only assume are safe, but use to enhance our health and appearance.

Here is a list of some of the nastiest chemicals:

-Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) is found in 90 percent of all shampoo. It penetrates the skin very easily and once inside the body, it collects in the heart, liver, lungs and brain. If SLS mixes with other chemicals, it becomes carcinogenic. Salon Selectives, Neutrogena Clean Shampoo and Clairol Herbal Essences contain SLS.

-Propylene glycol is highly toxic and causes brain, liver and kidney damage. It is found in deodorants such as Degree for Men, and hair products like L.A. Looks Gel and Dep.

-DEA, MEA and TEA are hormone disrupting chemicals, which can form cancer-causing nitrosamines. They are found in shampoo and body wash, including Flex, Pantene and Finesse Color Care. A study at the University of Illinois shows a link between repeated skin applications and liver and kidney cancers.

-Dibutyl phthalate is banned in Europe because it has been linked to cancer. It is most commonly found in nail polish, such as OPI, but since it is used to hold scent in a product, it sneaks into hairsprays and deodorant. Many companies do not even include it in the ingredient list, making it even harder to spot and avoid.

-Artificial colors like Blue 1 and Green 3 are carcinogenic. Colors with FD & C pigments are made from coal tar, which is also banned in Europe and studies have shown that it is carcinogenic. Dove Body Wash, Clearasil Body Wash and Dark & Lovely have these color additives.

-Formaldehyde is a preservative that damages the respiratory system, weakens the immune system and can cause cancer. OPI Nail Treatments and nail polish contain high levels of formaldehyde. And this list is just the beginning!

AND IF YOU THINK THAT 'NATURAL' ALTERNATIVES ARE BETTER ...

Makeup composed of inorganic pigments, such as mica, zinc oxide and iron oxide, is hugely popular, and is frequently being touted as a 'natural alternative' to conventional products.

But there is a lack of industry regulation on mineral make-up and the term 'natural' can be a bit of a misnomer, too, as the minerals have to go through stringent chemical and purification processes to be included in cosmetic products.

Other controversial issues surrounding mineral make-up are the use of ultra-fine particles in some brands, which are 'nano-sized' (once inside the body, there are concerns that nano particles seem to have unlimited access to all tissues and organs, including the brain, and may cause cell damage that we don't yet understand) .

Some mineral make-up brands may also use potentially toxic minerals such as talc, aluminium and bismuth oxychloride - a by-product of lead and ore refining that can cause skin irritation and scratch the surface of the skin.

Having said that, if you are determined to use mineral make-up - particularly the more ethical brands - you will be exposing yourself to far fewer synthetic chemicals on your face than if you use conventional make-up.

So just be careful, be aware and hopefully we will all be safer with thsi little bit of knowledge.

Make-up Trends: Smoky Blue Eyes

GET THE LOOK: "Using rich color is a ravishing new take on the smoky eye," says celebrity makeup artist Napoleon Perdis. Line eyes with shimmery navy eye pencil, then fill in your lids and smudge it, advises Perdis, who suggests dabbing rich dark blue shadow over it to set the look.

INSIDER TRICK: "It is extremely important to keep the color below the crease line on your lids," Perdis warns. Dab color in the socket and clean the upper lid with a Q-tip.

Celeb Looks - Jennifer Anniston at LA premiere of "He's Just Not That Into You"

He's Just Not That Into You opens this Friday, and at last night's LA premiere, the stars of the film tried to look red carpet fabulous...some succeeded and some didn't....However, we thought we would take one star and breakdown her makeup and style — Jennifer Aniston.

Jennifer Aniston keeps it classic in a black Burberry pantsuit. The former Friends star, who turns 40 next Tuesday, finished off her look with a Ferragamo clutch at the Warner Bros. event (sponsored by Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal).

Inspired by Aniston's stylish suit and loose ponytail, makeup artist Angela Levin created a fresh makeup palette for the actress. "Jen gave me the inspiration of a sexy, powerful California business woman, the kind of girl I think we all want to be," said Levin. To get the details on achieving Jennifer's glowing makeup, check out the straight-from-the-source how-to when you read more.

* Complexion: Levin prepared Jennifer's skin with Chanel Hydramax + Active Moisture Crème ($70) on her face and neck. Next, she applied Cle de Peau Beaute Refining Fluid Foundation in 030 ($115).

* Eyes In order to create a shiny surface on the lids, Levin applied Shu Uemura Cream Eye Shadow ($25) in the beige shade. Next, Levin used Chanel Soft Touch Eye Shadow in Le Bronze ($28.50) on the outer half of Jennifer's lids and Tina Earnshaw Eye Shadow in Bitter Sweet ($20) on the creases. To finish off, Levin used Chanel Intense Eye Pencil in Ambre ($27), a sweep of Chanel Soft Touch Eye Shadow in Platine ($28.50) under the brow bown, and Chanel Inimitable Mascara in Noir ($30).

* Cheeks A small amount of Chanel Hydrabase Lipstick in Fire ($28.50) was applied to the apples of her cheeks. To set the makeup, Levin used a large brush and Sephora Double Compact Mineral in D35 ($22). A touch of bronzer was applied to create a sun-kissed glow.

* Lips A sweep of Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in PK322 ($23) was applied to the lips and Chanel Glossimer in Jaipur ($27) added some extra shine.

Make-up Trend: Soft Eyeliner

GET THE LOOK: Don’t think that eyeliner has to be fierce—it can add just the right touch of glamour, as it did for Molly Sims or Kareena Kapoor. in the past I have created this look very easily. Recently, for Molly Sims, Makeup artist Stevi Christine, of Warren-Tricomi L.A., created this look using white shimmer on the inner corners of the eye and a silvery-gray on the lid. “I accentuated her eyes by adding a navy-black kohl eyeliner on the top and lined the rim of the inside,” says Christine.

INSIDER TRICK: Adds Christine, “Make sure you keep your eyeliner in your clutch because you will want to touch it up when you hit the ladies’ room!” You’ll want to re-trace the line near the inner corner, which can dissipate because of the proximity to eye moisture.

To Bronze or not to Bronze...

From moisturizer to powder to gel, here's a rundown of get-the-glow goodies.

1. Tinted moisturizer
Tinted moisturizer offers no-commitment glow and moisture in one, plus SPF protection in most cases. Go a shade deeper than one you'd ordinarily use, such as medium if you have a fair complexion and so on. The super sheer quality will give you just a hint of colour.

Products to try: Dermalogica Sheer Moisture SPF 15 ($53, www.dermalogica.ca); DuWop Revolution Face SPF 15 ($30, www.sephora.com); or Cover Girl Advance Radiance Age-Defying Sheer Moisturizing Makeup SPF 15 ($12.99, drugstores).

2. Moisturizers with a bit of self-tanner
These popular hybrids are goof-proof routes to a natural-looking colour. The low DHA content (2 per cent or lower) as well as regular exfoliation make streaks pretty much impossible. Try Jergens Natural Glow Face Daily Moisturizer ($9.99), which comes in three shades, or Evian Affinity Holiday Skin Moisturiser ($25, www.evianaffinity.ca). For sun protection too, look for Olay Touch of Sun Daily UV Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 ($19.99).

3. Self-tanner
Of course, if you want to make a safe colour commitment, self-tanner for the face is your answer. Try Yves Rocher Lift Effect Sunless Tanning Care ($12.50, Yves Rocher boutiques; www.yvesrocher.ca), which delivers an instant cooling effect as well as wrinkle smoothing, plus colour in an hour; Clarins Sheer Bronze Self Tanning Hydrating Gel for Face ($28, www.clarins.com) with antioxidants develops colour in under two hours; or Neutrogena Build-A-Tan Face SPF 15 ($12.99, drugstores), which lets you customize the intensity.

4. Powder
The news with powder formats this season is matte, which is terrific for oily skin. Try N.Y.C. Matte Bronzer ($3.99, drugstores); Physician's Formula Baked Pyramid Matte Bronzer ($19.99, drugstores); or Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Soft Matte Bronzer ($40, department stores).

5. Gel and liquid
Sheer gel formulas are good for dry skin. Try Stila Sun Gel ($24, Holt Renfrew; www.sephora.com), Laura Mercier Bronzing Gel ($30, Holt Renfrew; www.sephora.com) or Clinique True Bronze Bronzing Gel for Face ($18.50, department stores; www.sephora.com). Liquids also offer a really natural look because they sink into skin rather than sit on top. As well, you can mix in moisturizer or foundation to customize a shade. Try Lancôme Star Bronzer liquid highlighter ($31, department stores; www.sephora.com) or Origins Sunny Disposition Liquid Bronzer ($25, select Bay stores).

Good-to-glow application tips:
1. Make gentle exfoliation a regular part of your cleansing regimen to ensure even colour, whatever medium you choose.

2. Bronzer that is too dark makes skin look muddy. The lighter your skin, the lighter gold your shade should be. The darker your skin, the more copper your shade should be. Thankfully, finding the right hue is easier now because corresponding skin tones are often indicated on the packaging, as is the case with L'Oreal Paris Glam Bronze Pressed Powder ($13.95, drugstores), Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder ($44, Guerlain boutiques; select Bay stores) and YSL Poudre de Soleil SPF 10, ($58, Holt Renfrew).

3. Using a powder? Start with an all-over dusting of translucent powder so the bronzer goes on evenly. Dip a powder or blush brush into bronzer, tap bristle tips against a tissue or the back of your other hand, then sweep across the tops of cheeks, bridge of the nose, and on your temples, with the barest bit on the chin.

4. Going with a gel or liquid? Give your moisturizer time to sink into bare skin, then apply gel or liquid bronze sparingly with fingertips.

5. Bright pink or deep rose blush on the apples of cheeks over bronzer mimics the rosy just-out-of-the-sun glow. Try Benefit Dallas ($34, select Bay stores; www.sephora.com), a warm rose hue that looks good on a range of complexions; Benefit Benetint ($28) cheek stain before bronzer is also a great-for-everyone flush.

6. Using tinted moisturizer or moisturizer with self-tanner? Highlight smooth cheekbones with shimmery CARGO Beach Blush in Cable Beach or Echo Beach ($26, select Bay stores; www.sephora.com).

Now that you're a self-bronzing expert, feel free to continue after winter wanes -- a glowing, seemingly sunkissed complexion is always welcome, whatever the season.

Deepika's Makeup in CC2C: Chandi Chowk to China

'Deepika told me not to use tapes for her eyes' says Mallika Bhat, The Key makeup Artist on CC2C

The only brief director Nikhil Advani gave 28-year-old makeup artiste Mallika Bhat was 'make my lead actress look Chinese'. The fact that doe-eyed Deepika Padukone was the lead actress did not help Bhat's case. She says, "They had been through makeup artistes who decided to stick tapes on Deepika's face to pull her features back. But when we were done Nikhil asked if we had used tapes and I said no and he gave us the thumps up." Bhat did away with the tapes and instead researched heavily on the look. They watched the movie Memoirs of a Geisha to get a few ideas.

For Meow Meow's character Bhat had to flatten Deepika's sharp features and also add a tinge of yellow to resemble the Chinese skin tone. Nothing a few layers of foundation could not do. Moving on to the eyes, a base of pearly white eye shadow was applied and the inside of the eyes was lined with white pencil. But it was the eyeliner that did the actual trick. It started thin at the beginning of the eye and then became thicker and stopped just before the eye ended. Below and very close to the lower lash line, Bhat used foundation to make the eyes look smaller, a faux pas she committed while at makeup school. The eyes were complete with grey lenses to give her a cold look.

Lips were pinched with a lot of reds used. For the hair, a wig was rebounded and thinned to appear similar to the reed thin hair that those in the orient have. Sharp asymmetrical bangs gave the edgy look that Deepika's character has.

For Sakhi's part that is of the modern Indian girl, there was not much Bhat had to work on. She used shades of pink as that's what the character is mostly dressed in. The skin tone was a few shades darker than the Chinese and the hair was styled to have a lock of curls at the end and side bangs that were constantly falling over one eye. "

Surprisingly this look took an hour and a half to put together while the Chinese look was complete in 25 minutes! Deepika was very professional. She knew we were working against the odds. She only told me not to use tapes," laughs Bhat. She says that a lot of the ladies are asking for a hair cut similar to Meow Meow's and well, she only hopes it's a trickle down effect of her hard work.

Nikil Advani talks Deepika Padukone's Makeup

IT was director Nikhil Advani who insisted on the half-painted lips, imitating the Japanese geisha girl style. "The make-up artiste Mallika and I really fought about it because she wanted to make it Chinese and authentic. But for me, it was more important to give something back to the audience that was trendy — Chandni Chowk To China is, after all, a Bollywood film. I wanted people who saw it to pick it up as a trend and try it back home."

So Deepika's Meow Meow character sports pouty lips, shot with a strip of red. For the rest through, the director said that his crew stuck to authenticity, got their materials from China and tailored them there. Nikhil saw Deepika's double role as Sakhi, damsel-in-distress and Meow, ruthless and steely. "So we even experimented with how we did her hair — for Sakhi's Barbie doll character, she had it soft, while Meow Meow had poker straight hair with a fringe. She even uses her braid as a weapon." Motifs helped too. Sakhi had a flower one and Meow Meow, well… a cat.

Makeup Trend: Megan Fox's Look

Bombshell Megan Fox draws comparisons to Angelina Jolie for her pouty lips and dramatic, cat-like eyes. Steal her sex kitten appeal with these beauty secrets:

Apply a yellow-based concealer a few shades lighter than the skin to conceal dark circles. Blend foundation into the cheeks, forehead, nose and chin using a clean makeup brush and spot-cover blemishes with concealer. Dip a large brush in loose translucent powder and dust it on the bridge of the nose, the chin and forehead.

In order to create the illusion of sculpted cheekbones, blush should follow the line of the cheekbones and begin at the temples; blend it well and keep it off the center of the face. Sweep a bit of shimmery powder highlighter onto the inner corners of the eyes.

Using an eyeshadow brush, blend a white shadow from the lash line to the eyebrow and apply a smoky charcoal shadow into the crease (optional).

Fox’s eyes are a piercing shade of blue, which contrast her dark hair and creamy complexion. You can make this look your own with colored contact lenses.

With a steady hand, apply black liquid liner to the upper lash line in one continuous motion, sloping the line upward and extending it a few millimeters beyond the outer corner of the eye. Skip the lower lashes—mascara will bring them out.

Prep your lashes with an eyelash curler and glue a few individual lashes to the outer corners of each eye. Generously layer with black mascara.

Fill in sparse eyebrows with a pencil. To create deeper color, go over them with a matching powder, emphasizing the tops of the arches. Brush the hairs upward with clear gel.

Line lips with a fleshy nude pencil and fill them in with a nude lipstick. Blot, reapply and add lip gloss to put the finishing touch on this too-hot-to-touch look.

Golden Globes 2009 Makeup Breakdown: Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde hits the red carpet at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards.

Olivia, looking feminine and frothy in a lavender Reem Acra gown. To match her jeweled belt, Olivia dressed her earlobes up with huge diamond earrings.

With lighter hair than we saw at the People's Choice Awards, Olivia Wilde still shines with her slightly off center part and straight locks here. After all, keeping the hairstyle simple draws the attention to her face itself.

Here's a perfect example of how applying a touch of white highlighter in the inner corners can really make eyes pop. Add in her light-colored shadow, brown liner, and natural lashes, and her lovely eyes become the focus of her look.

The 24-year-old House M.D. actress wore a lavendar Reem Acra gown. House M.D. is nominated for Best Television Series in the Drama Category. Other nominees include: Dexter, In Treatment, Mad Men and True Blood.

Olivia has previously had roles in such series as: The O.C. and The Black Donnellys.

Golden Globes 2009 Makeup Breakdown: Evan Rachel Wood

Looking far different from her Dita-esque retro tribute a few months ago, Evan Rachel Wood showed off a fresh, polished look at the Golden Globe Awards.

The 21-year-old actress wore a black Elie Saab dress with a plunging neckline to the event. Regarding her dress, she told USA Today, “It felt like my personality and it catches the light. [But] I’m hungry. I never eat before this awards show!”

She kept her makeup light and fresh -- a far cry from the gothic look the young actress sported nearly the entire time she was dating Manson -- and it suited her so much more! This makeup is much softer than the styles she's been sporting recently, and it's hard to go wrong with a sophisticated updo.

The black dress was truly one of the beautiful gowns of the evening. So with all this in mind,

Golden Globes 2009 Makeup Breakdown: Hayden Panettiere

If you're holding out for a hero, look no further than Miss Hayden Panettiere. She showed up on the Golden Globes red carpet looking, well, golden. From a makeup perspective, it's a look that she's done before: sun-kissed skin, pink-tinted cheeks and lips, and smoky, false lashes. Hayden always wears a smoky eye so well.

Where she really explored new territory was her hair. She took it all to one side with big, sweeping curls. I'm personally loving it, but I wish she had touched up the color at the roots. and we're loving her tastefully-long extensions (she has a bob, remember?).

Recreate the gorgeous glam waves by using a large-barreled curling iron (try Conair Instant Heat 1 1/2" Curling Iron). Roll your hair in the iron (holding it horizontally) from roots to ends. Brush out curls once cool to soften and blend them together.

Other than that, pretty flawless.

Golden Globes 2009 Makeup Breakdown: Megan Fox

Kate Winslet seemed more surprised that anybody by the honors, trying to thank the other nominees – Meryl Streep, Kristin Scott Thomas, and “who was that other one in the drama category? Yes, Angelina.” And there was another, Anne Hathaway.

Golden Globes 2009 Makeup Breakdown: Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt helped kick off major award season tonight. Angelina paired her sparkly Atelier Versace gown with the Jimmy Choo “Emma” Satin Sandal. She finished off her look with “Platinum” jewels by Neil Lane. Angie’s luscious locks were done by David Babaii and makeup applied by Mary Burton. Her look was put together by the style genius Jennifer Rade.

Mary wanted to create a sheer, natural look and choose to focus on the eyes. She applied Lancôme Artliner in Noir to the lash line starting at the inner corner and blending out. To create drama Mary used two different mascaras, Lancôme Courbe Virtuôse Mascara in Black and Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara in Black and applied a few coats of both to add volume and length. She added just a touch of color to the apples of her cheeks by applying Lancôme Color Design Blush in Model Mocha with her finger. To finish the look, Mary used Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling for a soft, pale pink, glossy pout.

Mary Burton worked with Angelina on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Other film credits include Die another Day and X-Men.

Makeup Bag Check: Jennifer Aniston

Love her or hate her, you must admit there’s something compelling about Jennifer Aniston—no, we’re not talking about her personal life here (nor her GQ cover, for that matter). She’s pretty much got the rom-com thing nailed and has been enjoyable in other, less predictable on-screen formats as well (two words: Office Space). We attribute her success to her girl-next-door, all-American, plain-and-simple-but-still-sexy appeal. According to makeup artist Angela Levin, who readied Ms. Aniston for the Marley & Me premiere last night in L.A., the actress’ all-natural look is 100 percent intentional: “She just wants to look and feel great and happy.” See below for Levin’s tips on how to put it all together:

The Face

To prep Aniston’s face, Levin used By Terry Lift and Stretch antioxidant serum around her eyes to smooth skin before applying just a touch of Lorac Natural Performance Foundation in NP6. To add a bit of sun-kissed contour, Levin used Rimmel’s Sun Shimmer in medium matte and brushed Bobbi Brown’s Bronzing Powder from Aniston’s temples along her cheekbones. For a rosy glow on the apples of Aniston’s cheeks, Levin mixed a Chanel Crème Lipstick in Coco Red with a hydrating lip treatment and a dab of Sephora Blush Me! in Rose Rebelle 1.

The Eyes

For some (very) understated drama, Levin blended Chanel Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Silvery toward the outer corners of Aniston’s eyes, using the same product in Slate on the lids. She topped this off with Nars Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Violetta on the center of the lids and under the lower lashes as a light smoky liner.

The Lips

With access to a whole host of professional and as-yet-unreleased goodies, Levin dipped into her arsenal and treated Aniston’s lips to Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2009 Glossimer in Mica.
