Makeup artist offers class at college for teens and adults

Professional makeup artist Danielle Carpenter will offer a hands-on two-hour workshop Saturday morning through the Dalton State College Continuing Education program.

The workshop, Glamour Makeup Techniques for Fun and Special Occasions, is perfectly timed to coincide with prom, party, graduation, vacation and heading-off-to-college season.

Carpenter has been in the industry for eight years and currently works as a professional makeup artist with MAC Cosmetics. She's created cosmetic artistry for independent films, local commercials, tutorial videos and countless weddings. Now she's bringing her knowledge and experience to Dalton State.

“Why should women pay to have their makeup done every time they want to make a statement for a special occasion or just for fun?” said Kelly Snyder, continuing education program coordinator. “Danielle is going to share her expertise to teach us non-pros how to use makeup to highlight our assets and play up our favorite features.”

“She plans to discuss and illustrate major makeup hot trends and topics including skin care, blending, contouring, brush types, and different types of eyeliner techniques,” Snyder continued. “Danielle will guide students as they learn to create ‘Now and Wow!’ looks like the smoky eye and flirtatious cat eye.”

“We are going to have a great time in this class and jam a lot into two hours,” said Carpenter. “I’m going to spill lots of insider tricks that makeup artists use to work their magic and teach students to create many of the current popular looks. Working with, playing with, and experimenting with cosmetics is one of the most fun things about being a girl, so let’s be creative!”

Students are required to bring the following: three favorite eyeshadows (one light, one medium, and one dark), all personal brushes, a hand-held mirror and a favorite lip gloss.

“Danielle will be bringing a ton of other awesome supplies and samples,” Snyder said. “This workshop will be entertaining and educational and students will walk away with an arsenal of new beauty know-how. This class will be great for a group of friends or for a mother and teenage daughter to attend together.”

Glamour Makeup Techniques for Fun and Special Occasions will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $20 and pre-registration is required. Students wanting more information or to pre-register may call (706) 272-4489 or log on to www.daltonstate.edu/cce and click on Personal Growth.
