Longer Lashes: Allergan's Latisse Approval

Allergan Inc., which makes Botox anti-wrinkle injections, said Friday that it has won approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration of it Latisse treatment designed to grow eyelashes “longer, thicker and darker.” The Irvine, Calif.-based firm said it will market the treatment in the U.S. by prescription only, beginning in the first quarter, and estimates that the global business could exceed $500 million annually.

A panel of government experts said that the glaucoma drug appears to be a safe and effective way to make eyelashes longer and fuller.

The agency's panel of outside eye and skin specialists voted unanimously that the drug's benefits outweigh its risks.
