Brazil Fashion week...

It's always fashion week somewhere, and last week it was Brazil's turn. Sao Paulo fashion week, autumn/winter 2009 wrapped up over the weekend and featured runway shows from 38 designers.

Brazil is a fascinating emerging fashion market, with a furiously original design scene delivering creative and intelligent haute and ready to wear.

The quality and originality of the local designers like Alexandre Herchcovitch, Andre Lima, Samuel Cirnansck and label Animale is a refreshing break from the well-known labels of Paris and Milan.

Animale's complex knits, for instance, combine toughness and lightness. Sleeves are tight and opaque, while loose stitching leaves the chest almost uncovered. 2nd Floor's way with sequins delivers a subtle shimmer in a whole new way while Andre Lima's gowns were red-carpet-ready in a very tropical Brazilian way. He should expect J Lo in the showroom any day.
