Mattel backing LFW designers at New York Fashion Week
After taking over New York Fashion Week by having a dedicated fashion show, the creators of Barbie will now be sponsoring two leading designers from the London fashion scene. Mattel, the company behind Barbie, is backing Roksanda Ilincic and Danielle Scutt, two of London Fashion Week’s most exciting design talents, this coming show season.
While Roksanda Ilincic is known for her cocktail dresses, Danielle Scutt is famous for her aesthetic. Both of them will dress 50 limited edition Barbie dolls in looks that are inspired by their own collections, reports Elle Magazine. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary plans, Barbie will have her very own catwalk show in New York
Roksanda expressed her excitement by adding, “I couldn’t wait to dress Barbie; she’s such an iconic model, and the perfect front row show guest,” she told the magazine.
Danielle, who will be showing only her second solo show this year, added, “Dressing Barbie has been so much fun, but she’s no stranger; I worked on a project with her at college before I graduated, and thankfully she came back to support my show.”
This year Barbie’s show will feature creations from 50 designers all finished with off with Barbie inspired Christian Louboutins. More than 50 accessory designers have also created doll-inspired shoes and accessories to be shown at the Pręt ŕ Porter Paris salon this month, reports the magazine
