MAC is about to launch a range of eye-catching color cosmetics created by candy-floss haired Dame Edna Everage.
Alter ego of Australian Barry Humphries, the international comedy icon is renowned for pointed diamond encrusted glasses, garish make-up and a flamboyant dress-sense – an image that has helped to shape an equally outlandish cosmetics range.
The range includes a complete line-up of rich-colored make-up products packaged in retro designed lavender casing that is topped off with a signature red logo based on a pair of Dame Edna’s spectacles.
Signature pointy glasses
The line includes two shades of nail varnish, a highlight powder, two eye shadow trios, three lipsticks and three lip glosses, with each product carrying a name that reflects the famous brand of humor that has made Dame Edna an international superstar.
When asked which was her favorite product in the range, Dame Edna cited a red lipstick named KangaRouge.
"A part of the kanga is this same color - it's hopping over you and you look up and there it is. MAC has captured it. I only hope I don't I meet an excitable male kanga," she said.
Dame Edna goes global
MAC says the range will be available in about 500 department stores, together with 150 of its stand alone stores nationwide priced between $11 - $32.50. The range will also be launched in all major international markets.
MAC has a history of launching cosmetic ranges promoted by colorful public figures, having launched a cosmetics range created by transsexual star Amanda Lepore.
Industry experts believe that MAC’s move towards cosmetics endorsed by such larger than life figures because it ties in with the growing niche for flamboyant color make-up inspired by drag queens and transvestites.
